Ken - from P2P - found a Harley Forum on the net and found out that Harley is no longer suggesting SYN 3 (somewhat synthetic - its a group III) Mobil 1 , 20W-50 for bikes is a group IV, better oil for less $, but that is not what the fuss is all about. The SYN 3 oil is too light of a vis for the tyranny. After reading for hours on this forum we came up with - Mobil 1 20W-50 for bikes or Mobil 1 15W-50 for race cars, $20.00 for 4 qts. at Wal Mart. The only advantage is in the 15W and it gets to the upper parts of the engine sooner and that’s where most wear occurs. It also has less Molly and is less acidic. We are putting Mobil 1 - 75/90 Gear Oil in the trans. Makes it last longer and run cooler and quieter. The reason for Harleys switch is they were getting reports of a lot of metal fillings when changing the trans. Mobil 1 will stop that. The forum also agrees that any good cheap dyno oil will do in the primary as it only lubes the chain. 20W-50 non synthetic was suggested.

Read the oil and related topics and make up your own mind. I suggest a lot of research on this topic !
